Key Responsibilities
The Chief operating officer or COO is responsible for the performance of the company’s businesses, as guided by the overall strategy initiated by the CEO.
Responsibilities
• To build and lead an effective and cohesive executive management team with effective succession planning.
• To evaluate the executive management team.
• To chair the executive committee.
• To follow the vision and long-term strategy for the company as agreed with the CEO.
• To successfully communicate and implement the group’s strategy.
• To develop and put in place strategic operating plans and budgets for each of the company’s Business Units and/or Divisions.
• To lead the implementation in a timely manner of the strategy and follow up including bi-annual meetings, appraisals, and budget preparation.
• To guide the business into the future with planned growth ensuring that all stated objectives and targets are met.
• To lead the overall company towards growth and profits.
• To ensure that an appropriate structure for the group and its management is in place.
• To ensure appropriate and satisfactory systems are in place for monitoring group performance against plans and budgets.
• To develop and ensure implementation of company operational processes and policies and any changes to it.
• To ensure that operating objectives and standards of performance are understood and owned by management and employees.
• To ensure that the company and its businesses comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and, where appropriate, best practices.
• Write, submit and communicate reports to the CEO in all matters of importance.
• To provide all the required tools, information and reports to the CEO for him to be able to assess the performance of the business and the achievement of the agreed strategy and budget.
• To ensure that a system is in place for effective communication with the executive management team and other employees.
• To appoint (when necessary) and maintain a first-class effective management team.
• To be responsible, overall, for all dealings with the company staff and their appointment.
• Set operational and performance goals for each director and monitor regularly.
