Key Responsibilities

The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking an Assignment Editor for our Digital-Egypt team in our office in Cairo. MBN is a non-profit grantee of the federal government that directly communicates with the people of the Middle East and North Africa through television, radio, and digital media. MBN's mission is to provide objective, accurate, and relevant news and information to the people of the Middle East about the region, the world, and the United States in support of U.S. public diplomacy.
The Assignment Editor is responsible for creating and editing original videos and assigning content in a variety of journalistic forms to a team of domestic and overseas reporters.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Assignment Editor include , but are not limited to:
Assigning creation of original content in a variety of journalistic forms, including video stories, articles and alternative engagement content (polls, lists, surveys, interactive maps, UGC, data visualization) to complement articles and build engagement.
Editing and repackaging video content filed by overseas reporters.
Selecting, editing, and approving all content in a timely and balanced style in adherence to MBN’s Journalistic Code of Ethics.
Ensuring all material to be published is accurate, well organized and grammatically correct including news scripts, photographs, features and interviews.
Monitoring regional websites, online trends and analytics data to develop topics and content to engage audiences.
Working collaboratively and consistently with the other Assignment Editors and teams to maximize impact of content across social platforms.
Maintaining knowledge of current events in the Middle East, North Africa and across the globe.
Leading and motivating team to ensure quality and timely content.
Motivating, monitors performance, and provides feedback to team members to ensure quality and consistency of content.
Immediately taking measures to correct any publication errors on the Digital products; then reviewing processes to identify cause of error to eliminate future occurrences.

Skills

Candidates are required to have:

B.A., preferably in Journalism or English.
Ability to edit and create video content.
5 years of professional writing experience, preferably in news or feature writing.
Strong written and verbal English and Arabic communication skills.
Ability to write for the digital environment effectively in Arabic.
Competency in modern journalism tools including Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Google, YouTube.
Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 broadcast environment
.Demonstrate a well-informed understanding of Middle East current events and familiarity with international developments.
Ability to provide a quality, error-free product on time and thrive under constant deadline pressure.​
Demonstrated people management skills.

Specialities
