The first day of Mobile World Congress 2018 is officially coming to a close and with it brought along some interesting reveals of new devices. Sony, for example, finally unveiled the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact, its latest flagship smartphones that will no doubt intrigue some smartphone owners who are on the lookout for a new device to upgrade to. First and foremost Sony has finally decided to ship the Xperia XZ2 with a fingerprint sensor to all regions where the phone will be sold, something which it has been neglecting to do with last phones that have had fingerprint sensors when the phones came to the U.S. market. Sony has also placed the fingerprint sensor on the back of the device as opposed to on the side like on previous phones, and of course it packs the latest hardware inside too, such as the Snapdragon 845 processor. Sony also showed of a dual camera prototype that it could use in future smartphones that’s capable of capturing images with an ISO of 51,200.

Sony wasn’t the only manufacturer to show stuff off today as both Lenovo showed off some brand new Chromebooks which it aims to use to attack the education market, though they will likely be made available to non-education consumers as well. Though Samsung’s big phone reveal was yesterday, today included the announcements of many cases and accessories for Samsung’s latest devices, coming from companies like Incipio, i-Blades, Speck and more, which means consumers will have no shortage of options when it comes to choosing a case.

Qualcomm and other companies also had a lot to talk about in regards to 5G, something which is likely to continue being a trend at this year’s conference, with carriers like Verizon claiming it will be the first carrier to roll out commercial 5G next year. Qualcomm meanwhile, showcased a “5G car” which was utilizing concept 5G gigabit technology for in-car use of internet connectivity. Those particularly interested in the smart home connectivity might find the ‘Livin’ shower system exciting, which was designed to help minimize the amount of water that gets wasted during the time the average person takes a shower, and potentially for under a $500 price point.
