Mashable: Sultan Al Neyadi has begun his journey home

To welcome the beloved astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi home, the landmarks in Abu Dhabi were lit up on Sunday.

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, the landmarks in the United Arab Emirates capital of Abu Dhabi were illuminated with Sultan Al Neyadi’s images.

Ahead of his homecoming, Abu Dhabi’s landmark Mubadala Tower was among the buildings which were lit up in honour of Sultan Al Neyadi.

The Abu Dhabi Media office took to its official X account, formerly Twitter and shared a video of Abu Dhabi’s iconic landmarks displaying the images of Dr Al Neyadi.

Besides Mubadala Tower, Abu Dhabi’s Adnoc headquarters, Khalifa University, as well as Marina Mall’s observation tower also displayed Sultan Al Neyadi on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi who returned to Earth on September 4, 2023, splashing down off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida, US, has begun his journey to his beloved home country, the United Arab Emirates.

The Emirati astronaut took to his official X account and shared images with his travelling party in front of the government plane which is flying him back to the UAE. The image shows the nose of the aircraft inscribed with Al Ain, which is the astronaut’s hometown.

On Monday, September 18, 2023, the Emirates is set to give a “hero’s welcome” to the 42-year-old space explorer after his historic six-month mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

The Dubai-based Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) confirmed that the first Arab spacewalker, Sultan Al Neyadi’s return will be live-streamed from 5.30 pm on their website and YouTube channel.
