As COVID-19 hit last year, it resulted in a lot of delays for various events across the globe. What was planned for the year, had to be cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic.

Another event that was postponed due to the pandemic is the Cairo International Book Festival. The event that is usually scheduled to take place in January to correspond with the mid-year school break to attract young adults and school children had to be rescheduled. And now it will take place from June 30 to July 15.

One of the major highlights of Egypt’s cultural scenes, the 52nd Cairo International Book Fair is a popular event that is attended by thousands each year. This year, however, is going to be under strict rules and guidelines.

Held under the slogan ‘In reading is life’, the 15-day book fair with its increase in the number of exhibition days will support the book and publishing industry. The theme this year is Egypt’s Identity: Culture and the Question of the Future.

The book fair also honours a prominent Arab writer each year and this year, Egyptian novelist Yahya Haqqi will be recognised. He has published four collections of short stories, one novel, Umm Hashem’s Lamp, and many articles.

Another attraction at the fair will be the launch of the ‘Your Culture is Your Book’ initiative, which includes hundreds of books from different publishing houses, with all books under this initiative EGP 20 or below.

Visitors need to apply through an electronic reservation system to be a part of the event. The reservation to attend the event will be available through the official website, to determine the numbers of entries and exits. The ticket is priced at five Egyptian pounds ($0.32).
