Mashable: Apple might release next-generation AirPods for $99 in 2024, along with AirPods Max

This comes after reports of a more affordable version dubbed 'AirPods Lite' being in development.

If AirPods were too expensive for you but you still wanted them, Apple might be listening to your wishes. Apple's next-generation AirPods, which could cost $99, and the new AirPods Max are expected to go on sale in the second half of next year or the first half of 2025, according to a new report.

Popular Apple anlasyt Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted about the news. He did not, however, provide any other information regarding the new AirPods Max.

Kuo said in his Thursday tweets: "My latest survey indicates that Hon Teng (FIT)-- a Hon Hai/Foxconn Group subsidiary-- may be set to take over from Goertek as the new supplier for AirPods assembly. This move will bring significant benefits for Hon Teng."

"The next-generation AirPods, featuring more affordable AirPods (with Apple targeting a price of $99) and new AirPods Max, will likely begin mass sales in 2H24 or 1H25," he said. "Luxshare ICT and Hon Teng will produce the next-generation AirPods."

However, it was claimed this week that Apple is developing a cheaper wireless earbud model called "Airpods Lite" to compete with lower-priced alternatives. Additionally, Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, said that sales of AirPods would go down by 2023.
