Dubai's rapid move towards the future ahead of its peers in the gulf is largely fuelled by the online services and high-tech devices incorporated into public life by local bodies. The enhancements added to the city's infrastructure include AI to predict traffic snarls, smart metres to track water and power usage, along with facial recognition to protect residents.

Wearables have been deployed in the UAE for various tasks that include solving crimes by reading brainwaves, and monitoring infected people to spot quarantine violations. In a bid to use similar gadgets for strengthening its push for sustainable living, Dubai's electricity and water authority DEWA, is allowing residents to access info via Apple's smart watch.

The highly sought after device will now act as a crucial tool for people to monitor and modify their personalised consumption plans, aimed at cutting down wastage of resources. The local body which has been encouraging people to keep an eye out for leakages and track their bills, will now offer all these services through Apple's wearables.

Residents of the Middle East's futuristic city, can open the smart living dashboard and even check the details of their bills. Apart from saving costs, users will be able to receive reports about usage of water and power, on a weekly as well as daily basis through the watch.

To add to these upgrades, consumers can check out prices and discounts on smart devices to save water and electricity, on offer at DEWA's store. The initiative is another move by the water and power authority to promote digital transactions, and reduce carbon emissions, while it increases efficiency.

Residents can also receive alerts about unusual consumption while they are out of town, by activating the away mode, in order to keep an eye on wastage.

Apart from encouraging residents to focus on responsible usage, DEWA is also building a headquarter designed for sustainable ops.
