Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez mocked France’s star player Kylian Mbappe during his team's celebrations in the locker room after winning the FIFA World Cup 2022. The goalie joined in the post-game celebrations while streaming live on Nicolas Otamendi's Instagram.

Martinez paused to mock Mbappe when the Argentine players were singing and enjoying their World Cup victory. The Aston Villa goalkeeper asked for a moment of silence for France's top forward, which aroused excitement and cheers from his squad.

The Martinez-led celebration is undoubtedly an intriguing choice, particularly in light of Mbappe's hat trick against the Argentine goalie (excluding his successful conversion of the ensuing penalty shootout), but it most likely had its roots in remarks the French star made about South American football in May.

Argentina won the World Cup final against France to win the FIFA World Cup, which came seven months after Mbappe said South American football was "less advanced" than that in Europe. Mbappe claimed that due to their constant participation in competitive matches against one another, European nations were better prepared for the world cup than South American teams like Argentina and Brazil.

“When we arrive at the world cup, we are ready, where Brazil and Argentina do not have this level in South America. Football is not as advanced as in Europe. That’s why at the last world cups, it's always the Europeans who win," he had said earlier.

Mbappe played brilliantly, scoring three goals against Martinez to become the first player since 1966's Geoff Hurst of England to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final.

He then beat the goalkeeper with his penalty kick in the shootout, but Martinez emerged victorious as he saved another spot kick to give his team the win.
