The unit will have self cleaning filters, dissolved air floatation systems and solar PV systems.
Dubai has now become synonymous with the digitisation of the gulf by being a hub for every piece of tech including solutions for waste management, generation of clean energy and making day to day life more sustainable using tools backed by AI, cloud storage or even 3D printing, as it turns into a future-ready city. As it races ahead towards completing work on the world's largest solar park that'll power households, factories and electric vehicle charging networks, Dubai is also focusing on agritech for food security, as well as cloud seeding to generate water supply by making it rain more.
Over the past year or so, the city's water and power authority has even deployed smart metres and devices in the household that spot leakages, before alerting residents so that wastage of precious resources like water in the region can be prevented for more responsible consumption. Among projects at the core of its ambitions to become self-sufficient in a more climate-friendly manner, Dubai is surging ahead towards building the region's largest desalination plant, that'll use sophisticated tech to convert sea water into a drinkable resource, that can also be used for farming in the dry terrain.
Along with a capacity to handle about 600 million gallons of water from the ocean on a daily basis, the plant will be able to store 120 million gallons of fresh water, and has self-cleaning as well as multi media filters for smarter operations. To get rid of chemicals and oil that have dissolved in the water, the desalination facility will deploy high-tech air flotation systems, alongside solar photovoltaic cells to utilise the sun's energy, to make the project more sustainable.
Set to complete 50% work on the site by mid-2022, the authorities are also looking forward to cultivation of mangroves along the coast near the plant, and the vision also includes facilitation of turtle nesting in the region.
