Dubai residents to get a new 16 kilometres cycling track alongside Jumeirah Beach

In a new move to bring about a healthy lifestyle among Emiratis, Dubai government has taken a step forward to open a new cycling track at Jumeirah beach.

Cycling enthusiasts and individuals alike, can now get into long stretches as a16 km cycling track alongside Jumeirah Beach will be built.

One of Dubai's most beautiful and popular spots, the cycling track will connect the existing Jumeirah Street cycling track that runs parallel to the Dubai Water Canal with the existing cycling track alongside King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Street is located in Dubai Internet City.

 
Creating one giant seamless track, the cycling pathway is set to encourage people to take up healthy lifestyle, along with enjoying the beautiful Jumeirah beach.

Making the announcement on Saturday, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, shared that the new cycling track by the beach is part of a grand master plan ‘Master Plan for Cycling Tracks 2026’ to extend the emirate’s total bike lanes to 739km by 2026.

The first zone of the track will have a width of four metres, stretching alongside Jumeirah Beach, running parallel to existing jogging and walking tracks. The track extends from Dubai Water Canal to Umm Suqeim Park.

The second zone will be of three metres width, running alongside Jumeirah Street and King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Street, ending in Dubai Internet City. The track is aimed to serve the city’s hotspots along the beach like Sunset Mall, Open Beach, Dubai Sailing Club, Kite Beach, Umm Suqeim Park, and Burj Al Arab.

Talking about the new construction, Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) shared, “The construction of this cycling track is part of our efforts to realise the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to improve the quality of life of people and enhance their happiness. It is also a step to advance sustainable mobility.”

From design construction to setting of speed limits for cycling tracks, everything will be fashioned in line with top international standards and technical directories, along with customisation keeping in mind the nature of the locality and the classification of the tracks, Al Tayer mentioned.
