The city of Dubai has been high on cycling and cycling enthusiasts of the region can now enjoy a new path of cycling as a new bike track will be built in Mushrif National Park.

The 50-kilometer track will be built as part of Dubai’s efforts to become the world’s most bicycle-friendly city. The project was approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

The one-of-a-kind track will be the first track to be built by Dubai Municipality in the heart of Dubai which will be set amid the park’s forest of 70,000 trees.

With the construction of the new track of 276 kilometers to the total existing and planned cycle tracks, it will take the total length of bicycle tracks in the emirate to 739 kilometers by 2026.

The sandy bike track will start near the main gate of the park and also end at the same point. The track will have three quick-return lanes linked to three rest stops as well as two bike rental and repair shops.

The tracks are suitable for beginners as well. The track contains three crossing bridges as a first stage, up to 10 bridges at the end of the project implementation.

Throwing some light on the project, Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality said, “The first phase of the winding track, which is three meters wide, can accommodate more than 3,000 cyclists per day. The rugged track provides an enjoyable riding experience even for beginners.”

Considered one of the oldest parks in the emirate, it contains 70,000 trees and a host large number of unique birds. Spreading across a vast area of 5.25 square kilometers, it is less than 20 kilometers from the city center, and 10 kilometers from Dubai International Airport.
