Dubai's water and power authority DEWA has been at the forefront of the city's development as a sustainable, futuristic ecosystem. The organisation has introduced measures like smart metres for promoting responsible consumption among residents, and has also gone completely paperless in its operations.

After recently encouraging people to prevent wastage of water through systems to monitor leakages, DEWA has also been lauded for its efforts by a US-based green building council. With all those achievements under its belt, the Emirati smart city's local authority has now initiated construction of its own building, which will achieve the target of net-zero carbon emissions.

This indicates that the total energy used in by the facility every year, will be equal to or less than the amount of power generated on site. The 15 floor facility for 5000 people will be the tallest government building, embedded with smart tech to meet its emission goals.

Apart from Ghantoot handling the construction and Moro Hub providing AI-tools, global names like Microsoft and Johnson Controls will also be involved in setting up the advanced structure by 2023. The headquarters will be fortified by state-of-the-art cybersecurity, and a digital twin will be created for smart management.

Backed by AI, DEWA also promises to achieve the milestone of consuming 50% less water at its new head office.

To highlight its plans for a sustainable future in the Emirati tech hub, Dubai's electricity and water authority is also showcasing tech tools at Expo 2020. Its pavilion is set to feature green hydrogen projects which will fulfill local demands, and also allow the city to export clean fuel.

The world's largest solar park outside Dubai promises to help DEWA cut down carbon emissions by 6.5 million tonnes every year, once it's completed. It's Dubai Demand Side strategy on the other hand, aims to reduce water consumption in the city by 30% till the end of this decade.
