Sharjah, 19 Feb 2020:

 The Republic of Indonesia is organizing a series of cultural activities reflecting the diverse culture of the country, as part of “The World Heritage Weeks Programme.” The event is being held under the patronage of Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), in the presence of His Excellency Radwan Hassan, Consul-General of Indonesia in Dubai, Consul Bodhi Prayhantoro, and the participating delegation.

 The event takes place at the Cultural Heritage Center “Al Bait Al Gharbi,” from February 18-22, welcoming visitors to a unique experience offering the best of Indonesian culture, customs and traditions.

Popularly known for its vast history, the event provides visitors with an insight into the various elements that represent Indonesia’s heritage, folk arts, music and ancient civilization.

HE Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage said, “It has been an absolute delight to host the Republic of Indonesia in the Emirate of Sharjah this week. The beautiful country is known for its rich and diverse heritage, and we believe it is only fair to showcase the historical, cultural and architectural aspects the country is known for, so more people are aware of it.”

An annual event, “The World Heritage Week,” was launched under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah as part of Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s activities, to showcase the heritage and culture of countries across the world whilst providing a platform for the exchange of local and international experiences.

 “It’s an absolute honour to be provided with a platform to showcase what best defines the uniqueness of Indonesia’s culture. During the course of the event, we’ve had the opportunity to educate everyone eager to learn more about our heritage. We are extremely grateful to Sharjah Institute of Heritage, to provide us with this avenue which also further helped strengthen our relations with them,” said Hassan. 

Some of the activities organized for the event include exhibitions showcasing the country’s traditional garments and artifacts. 

On February 22, a lineup of special events, including an exhibit of Indonesian clothing and textile industry, in addition to cultural workshops on batik, wire jeweler and writing ancient Indonesian letters will be held.  The Indonesian folk band is also expected to perform as part of the event.

Through the World Heritage Week, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage imparts an important message regarding the need to exchange knowledge and experiences that could help preserve and further each country’s heritage.
