Dubai: A Dubai-based Indian journalist has bagged a prestigious media award in India.
M. Firos Khan, the Dubai bureau chief of Madhyamam Malayalam daily, won the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award for 2015.
He won the award for best reporting in regional languages other than Hindi for a six-day series on the debt crisis of Indian expats in the UAE.
The award will be presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function in New Delhi on November 2. It comprises a cash prize of Rs100,000 (Dh5,495) and a citation.
Instituted in memory of the founder and publisher of The Indian Express Group Ramnath Goenka, the award honours highest achievements in journalism in Indian media.
Hailing from Kerala, Firos is a postgraduate in Mass Communication and Journalism from Calicut University and has done a journalism diploma course at the RNTC Dutch Media Training Centre with a scholarship. He has also bagged two awards for reporting in Kerala.
