Mashable: A mother's love knows no bounds.
Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who was criticised for playing in the women's category at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, shut her naysayers by winning gold. The boxer's gender became a hot topic of discussion after Italian boxer Angela Carini backed out of a fight in 46 seconds. Angela broke down into tears and refused to shake Khelif's hand emphasizing she had never been hit so hard by a punch. Post the fight, many accused Khelif of being born a male.
After winning gold against Yang Liu, Imane took a stand for herself and made it clear that she is female. Now, Imane's mother Nasria has responded to those who accused her daughter of being a male or transgender.
Nasria is quoted by the Mail as saying that she will give her 'beloved daughter' her 'unwavering love and support as I have always done since she was born'. She added, "I will always be there for her'.
Previously, Khelif's father Amar came out to defend his daughter amid questions over her gender identity. He said, "My child is a girl. She was raised as a girl. Imane is a girl who has loved sport since she was six years old."
Recently, Imane made headlines after she debuted a new look post winning a gold medal. In a collaborative video posted by Beauty Code and Khelif, the Algerian boxer was dressed in a blue shirt and red boxing gloves before switching to an entirely different look. She was wearing a pink floral dress paired with hoop earrings.
The caption reads, "Her message is much deeper: clothes do not make a monk and appearance does not reveal the essence of a person. She can be feminine and elegant when she wants, but on the ring, she does not need makeup or high heels. She only needs strategy, strength, and to throw blows, which is where the essence of her personality lies."
