As the UAE celebrates the Year of the 50th, the country has been basking in celebrations. With various events and schemes, the region marks the golden year and a group of school students in Dubai, too have made taken upon to mark the year, by making a life-size golden medal.

Students of International Indian School in Baniyas West, have designed a medal to pay tribute to the UAE’s ‘Year of the 50th’. Around 450 students from the school made a medal weighing up to 450kgs. Made of steel, the medal measures 5.93sqm.

The students' teachers, parents, staff, school principal Dr Beno Kurien and school managing director Muneer Ansari, amidst all the safety protocols gathered in the school to get the task accomplished as an adjudicator from the Guinness World Records (GWR) took the measurements of the medal kept in the lobby.

The team of students and staff made the medal as they broke the previous record of 68.5 kg and 2.56sqm, which was set earlier this year in Abu Dhabi. Previously, there was an existing Guinness World Record achieved by Obaid Al Ketbi measuring 2.56sqm.

After the students finished making the medal, results were closely inspected and Guinness World Record’s Kanzy El Defrawy declared the results. “Congratulations, you have achieved 5.93sqm,” he said.

The reason to make the medal was the school’s way of paying tribute to this glorious nation and its great visionary leaders. They wanted to highlight the achievements of the UAE and that the UAE’s national flag and major landmarks, including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Burj Khalifa, Adnoc headquarters, were part of the medal.
