Innovators, doctors and the administration in UAE came together during the pandemic to arm medical professionals and residents with digital tools against infections. Online apps and data collection gadgets helped doctors in providing top notch healthcare by making informed decisions and monitoring patients remotely.

Even with the Emirates successfully overcoming a second wave of infections, the country is moving forward to adopt tech for strengthening healthcare further. Since schools are set to welcome back children, a group of students in Dubai has put together a robotic doctor which can help prevent infections in classes.

Created by students from class 10 and 11 in just three months, the virtual physician can check temperature and dispense sanitiser, along with raising awareness about safety measures. To enhance the fight against covid, the android is also equipped to identify symptoms in a child and alert the school administration about the same.

The programming on the robot can also be modified for different tasks, including interactions with students to educate them on recycling and sustainability. The medtech project was itself assembled by reusing steel cans, boxes, mixer grinders as well as abandoned cameras, tabs, speakers and processors.

Named Dr Robot Carmali, the android can also double up as a teacher's assistant to take attendance and conduct examinations. Three students came up with the innovation entirely using knowhow from their ICT textbook, and didn't take any outside help.

Not long before this display of local talent, students at Abu Dhabi university received a grant for creating AI drones. In a similar development, a teenager from the Emirates also invented a smart drone that could detect people buried under rubble for rescue missions.

The Emirati regime has also taken a proactive stand in creating its own fleet of young tech innovators, and establishing the world's first AI university is among several initiatives, which are part of a futuristic plan.
