In a new move to encourage the artistic community, Tashkeel has announced the recipients for its introductory scholarship fund. Tashkeel –a nurturing environment for the growth of contemporary art and design practice rooted in the UAE has announced the news to extend financial support to artists and designers of the UAE to pursue their postgraduate education.

The institution grants the scholarship every two years and has announced a Dh500,000 fund this year. The grant covers tuition fees for postgraduate studies in visual art and design within the UAE and worldwide. At present, the fund is open to Tashkeel alumni and for the members only, and there is no limit to the number of recipients chosen.

As the grant has been announced, Tashkeel has announced its three beneficiaries –Alia Bin Omair, Lina Ghalib and Faissal El Malak. The designers will pursue postgraduate studies in the UK, USA and Italy in fine art, product design and contemporary jewellery.
Established in Dubai in 2008 by Lateefa bint Maktoum, the Tashkeel Scholarship Fund is one of several programmes run by the organisation. The Critical Practice Programme, launched in 2014, offers mentoring, critiques, production support and studio access to artists in the UAE and concludes in an exhibition at the centre in Dubai’s Nad Al Sheba.

Additionally, the Tanween Design Programme started in 2013 has offered nine-month professional training in product design to local designers, helping them manufacture products, including furniture and striking pieces.

Tashkeel also provides its members' training, residencies, workshops and talks, and its facilities and studio spaces in Nad Al Sheba and Al Fahidi made available for practitioners to use.

And now, the art facility will begin accepting applications for the next fund in 2023 and applicants need to be valid members of Tashkeel for at least one year or should have participated in the Critical Practice Programme or Tanween Design Programme.
