Phone makers generally advertise an IP or Ingress Protection rating with the smartphones they sell, that is, if they have passed a series of tests.

However, if you're curious and need to check out if your smartphone is water-resistant or not, there's an app called Water Resistance Tester that does the work. Why would you use this an app for that? Well, doing so means you don't need to dunk your device in water and permanently damage it just to seek out if it can keep liquids from seeping inside the housing.

All things age, including your smartphone, and it's not just the electronics that degrade over time, but the seals protecting the handset. Water Resistance Tester, which is out there on Google’s Play Store, tests the integrity of these seals using the barometer of your device — provided your device has one. It's a free app on the Play Store, and if you inspect the screenshots below, we decided to see if the app works as advertised.

We had an iQOO 7 Legend lying around, so we installed the app and decided to check the app. iQOO has not marketed the phone for having an IP rating, and surely, once we used our two thumbs to depress hard on the display, the app notified us that the phone didn't have an IP rating. However, simply because you receive confirmation that the device you own is water-resistant doesn't guarantee it'll continue working if you're taking it with you for a swim.

Most phone makers conduct tests in ‘fresh water’ conditions and warn owners that a guaranty won't apply to a smartphone that has received water damage. to verify if a smartphone’s innards are wrecked thanks to any liquid seeping inside, there are certain indicators placed on the logic boards that change colour when coming in touch with any liquid.

In short, use Water Resistance Tester to offer yourself some comfort regarding your smartphone’s protection levels.
