Mashable: The team matched the world record, previously set by England
On Saturday, the UAE women’s cricket team bagged their qualification for Asian Cup by winning the ACC Women’s T20 Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The UAE team defeated the host team Malaysia in the finals by five wickets.
The win was UAE’s 20th win in a row and they matched the world record for the longest unbeaten run in T20 international cricket, previously set by England in the year 2012.
In the final match, team Malaysia took batting first and made 100 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. Malaysia’s Ainna Hamizah Hashim made the top score for the hosts with an unbeaten 28 runs.
Malaysian opener, Wan Julia made 20 runs, and player Nur Arianna Natsya made 25 runs.
On the other hand, UAE opener Theertha Satish was crowned Player of the Match as she made 55 runs from 42 deliveries that included nine boundaries.
UAE’s Theertha Satish was also named Player of the Series.
Indhuja Nandakumar, UAE’s medium-pacer took 2 wickets for 17.
Esha Oza was named Best Batter as she scored a total of 192 runs from six matches, which included a century.
The semi-final match, which was played on June 24, saw matches between UAE v/s Nepal and Malaysia v/s Hongkong.
The first semi-final match took place between UAE and Nepal and was called off due to rain. Team UAE progressed to the finals for being on top of the Group table.
The second semi-final match took place between Malaysia and Hongkong, where the team Malaysia managed to beat Hongkong by 12 runs.
Both, the UAE and Malaysia had already been qualified for the Asian Cup will is scheduled to be held later this year.
