Ever since the Coronavirus pandemic started in 2020, the world turned upside down, quite literally as came to standstill worldwide with lakhs of people rushing to get their treatments done at numerous hospitals.

Businesses stopped, educational institutes took a back seat, travelling banned, were some of the day-to-day things that were put to stop. But what kept the world running were the frontline workers, who worked around the clock to make sure others are safe and equipped in this deadly pandemic.

As the public stayed in, these frontline heroes brought the region to where it is at present. Thus, to honour the frontline heroes, the UAE government announced an initiative for the children of these frontline stars. The frontline workers in the UAE and their children will receive scholarships for higher studies under this government initiative.

Announcing on Tuesday, the Frontline Heroes Office, which was set up in July 2020, shared that the Higher Education Scholarship Programme will be offered to exclusive frontline workers in the UAE to reduce their education costs.

The programme will be supported by a social initiative launched by a group of Emirati businessmen – Sandooq Al Watan, the private sector and the Ministry of Education.

The scholarship will allow eligible frontline heroes and their children to study at government and private universities and colleges across the UAE and the scholarships will start from the 2021-2022 academic year.

Applicants who wish to opt for the scholarships can submit their scholarship request along with supporting documents and the acceptance letter from their chosen university or college to Education@FrontlineHeroes.ae, shared by the officials.

Earlier in September 2020, in a similar initiative, the UAE authorities relieved the financial pressure of school tuition fees for healthcare professionals with the ‘Hayyakum programme’. The government also launched the Fazaa Frontline Heroes initiative to give healthcare workers discounts on numerous brands at several stores and food outlets across the UAE.
