The United Arab Emirates celebrates its national day annually on December 2 to commemorate the unification of seven Emirates including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. The historic moment took place on December 2, 1971, ending the British protectorate status thereby binding the regions together as an independent sovereign country.

The occasion is celebrated in a grand fashion every year and this time is no different. TimeOutDubai quoted Eisa Alsubousi, director of strategic and creative affairs of the organizing committee of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad Celebration, speaking about how this year the theme is all about sustainability, "To support these festivities, we have created comprehensive guides to inspire and assist in preparations to celebrate sustainably. We encourage government entities, private companies, schools, and families to download these resources and join in marketing this significant celebration. We can repurpose existing decorations to celebrate Eid Al Etihad."
