Buoyed by its successful journey into the Martian orbit in the first attempt, UAE now aims to shine by launching its moon mission by 2022. The country which is also building its own satellites and has trained two sets of astronauts for cosmic voyages, is gearing up to send a robot on the lunar quest.

Following the arrival of breathtaking images of Mars from the Hope Probe, Emirati space authorities are embedding state of the art equipment onto their moon rover. The lunar vehicle called Rashid will be empowered with two high resolution cameras, loaded with features to ensure maximum coverage of the moon's environment and to generate images that convey minute details.

The gadgets dubbed CASPEX or Cameras for Space Exploration, will be supplied as part of UAE's pact with France. The camera at the front will be mounted on a mast to capture a panoramic image of Rashid's surroundings, while the one at the back will focus on collecting precise visuals of the moon's soil.

Coming to tools installed for enhancing picture quality, the CASPEX devices will use microlenses as well as High Dynamic Range to scale up visibility irrespective of the lighting. A colour filter array will also be integrated into the mechanism, for collecting data which can be analysed efficiently.

As for information relayed back to earth, the friction between wheels of the rover and the lunar soil recorded by the camera on the rear end, will help researchers design devices with better mobility.

In addition to their capabilities to paint an accurate picture of the moon for further exploration, the cameras are built to withstand vibrations when the moon mission will be launched.

Images have also played a major role in mapping out the Hope Probe's journey, since it started with Mars' first image as a tiny red dot in the universe, and so far the space vehicle has captured images explaining the Martian atmosphere by highlighting different types of clouds.
