Microsoft's much awaited event where we're expected to hear about the next big update for Windows is due for 24th June. Up until now, we weren't even sure what Microsoft was going to call this next version. But, we don't need to wait for next week, because it appears "almost" everything has been leaked.

Rumor has it that Microsoft is calling it Windows 11a dn while Microsoft could come up with a different name at launch, it seems unlikely since the leak sort of confirms the name.

From the leaked screenshots of Windows 11 it's evident that Microsoft has put in a lot of effort on design changes. There's a new Start and taskbar interface and the design improvements take from Microsoft's now-shelved Windows 10X.

Originally meant for the Surface Neo tablet and dual-screen Windows devices that were supposed to be the next big tech phenomenon, Windows 10X evolved into a Chrome OS-like lightweight version of Windows, but Microsoft eventually scrapped development entirely. Some Windows 10X features were set to come to Windows 10, but evidently, much of the design also came to Windows, albeit this upcoming Windows 11 update.

The Windows taskbar now features centred app icons which look a like the macOS dock. Additionally, the Start menu now opens within the centre of the screen. It includes pinned apps, recent files and buttons for shutting down or restarting Windows 11. The Verge's Tom Warren describes it as a simplified version of what exists in Windows 10, but without the Live Tiles which very few have good things to say about.

The taskbar also features a new addition: a ‘Widgets’ button. Although Widgets won’t load within the leaked Windows 11 build, it does suggest Microsoft plans to bring back Windows Widgets.

Windows 11 sports a fresh, simpler start-up and set-up experience too and the cherry on top is a new start-up sound! The refreshed OS features rounded corners on app windows. One other highly anticipated new feature in Windows 11 is that the new Store experience. Rumours suggest it'll offer a more streamlined experience, the power for developers to submit any Windows application and more. However, the new Store experience wasn’t activated in the leaked Windows 11 build so we'll have to wait to know more on that.
