The Ajman Police have arrested a 27-year-old man who took pictures and videos of last Saturday's group clash scene and posted them on social media. 

The clash - which took place on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street - left two Emirati men in their twenties dead.

Major Mohammed bin Yafour al-Ghafli, acting director of criminal investigations and search department at the Ajman Police, said after the photographs and video clips of the crime scene got circulated in social media, a team of CID officers swung into action and launched a manhunt for the suspect. Within a short time, they managed to identify the Gulf national identified as AAA and arrested him from one of the areas in the emirate.

The suspect confessed that he had filmed and took pictures of patrol officers and patrolling at the crime scene. He also recorded his voice in the video describing the casualties and the situation without respect for privacy of individuals and secrecy of security.

He was referred to the public prosecution under Article 21 of the cybercrime law No 5 of 2012 which penalizes an offender with jail term of less than six months and fine of not less than Dh150,000.

He added that the security authorities in the country have repeatedly declared and prohibited the portrayal of incidents - whether traffic or criminal - or dissemination of information about them, or portraying others without their knowledge and authorization. He urged the public to respect the privacy of individuals and confidentiality of security issues. The misleading information would lead to confusion and panic among members of the society and stir up public opinion, he cautioned.
