While Expo 2020 Dubai opened its door to visitors on October 1, 2021, many pavilions are welcoming guests gradually and one of them is the Turkish Pavilion which opened to all on November 23.
The opening was a grand affair as a lively mix of Turkish folk performances enthralled the spectators at Expo’s Earth Stage marked the opening of the Turkey Pavilion.
The opening evening saw Turkish artists performing ‘horon’ — popular folk dance of the region. The performance was put across to traditional string and woodwind instruments, bagpipes, and percussion, with rhythmic, high-tempo dancing.
Featuring amazing choreography and rich cultural content, the traditional Turkish folk dance from the Black Sea Region of modern-day Turkey showcased the region’s rich art and culture.
The display also included ‘kafkas’, the Caucasian folk dance along with a performance by a Turkish band. A large number of Turkish nationals and visitors were mesmerised by the cultural presentation who applauded the performances that were staged at the venue just next to the Turkey Pavilion.
The evening of entertainment marked the culmination of day-long events, which included a carpet show and miniature art, organised to mark the official opening of the Turkey Pavilion.
Located in the Sustainability District under the theme ‘Creating the Future from the Origin of Civilisations’, the Turkey Pavilion has been designed to reflect the unique history of Anatolia, as well as to showcase nature the country’s sustainability goals.
Inspired by Gobeklitepe (Potbelly Hill), one of the first manifestations of human-made monumental architecture, the pavilion aims to offer a unique experience for visitors, that highlights Turkey’s perspective on the future, and showcase the country’s nature and its sustainability goals.
