Apple's decision to utilize Google's Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) for training was outlined in a recent technical paper released by the company. Additionally, Apple has made available a preview version of Apple Intelligence for select devices.

Nvidia's expensive GPUs have established a strong presence in the high-end AI training chip market, facing challenges in meeting the demand due to their popularity in recent years.

OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic rely on Nvidia's GPUs for their models, while various tech giants such as Google, Meta, Oracle, and Tesla are actively acquiring them to enhance their AI capabilities, reports CNBC.

Both Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai recently stated that their companies and other industry players might be allocating too many resources towards AI infrastructure. However, they also recognized the significant business risks associated with not investing enough in this area.

In its 47-page document, Apple refrains from mentioning Google or Nvidia; however, it does highlight that its Apple Foundation Model (AFM) and AFM server are trained using "Cloud TPU clusters." This indicates that Apple has utilized rented servers from a cloud service provider to carry out the necessary computations.

Apple has unveiled Apple Intelligence, a system that encompasses a variety of new features. These include an updated interface for Siri, enhanced natural language processing capabilities, and AI-generated summaries within text fields.
