Mashable: Apple Glass development hinted at in new hinge patent application
Apple is said to be developing smart glasses, although they may not be available for several years. However, recent patent applications suggest that the company is working on hardware that could be used in their next-generation wearables. One such patent application describes a hinge mechanism that could potentially be used in Apple's rumored augmented reality glasses.

Earlier this year, Apple introduced the Vision Pro, its first wearable spatial computer, in the US. It is anticipated that future models will have a more traditional glasses-like design. The patent application details a dual-axis hinge that allows the glasses' arm to be opened in three different states: open, folded, and hyperextended, reports Gadgets 360.
Apple has stated that their AR glasses will feature a hinge that allows for multiple axes of rotation, enabling the arm of the glasses to move into different stable positions. This innovative hinge design also allows the glasses to securely fit a wide range of head sizes.
Additionally, the dual-axis hinge mechanism will include a cable that connects various components within the arm and frame of the glasses.
Apple's patent document assures that this redesigned hinge will keep the components safe. Interestingly, the patent document frequently mentions 'eyewear', indicating that Apple is actively working on developing their own smart glasses. Previous reports have speculated a transition from the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset to a more streamlined device.

In the previous month, news emerged stating that Apple intends to introduce a foldable iPhone in 2026 and AR glasses in 2027. However, Apple is not the sole player in the development of smart glasses. Competitors such as Asus, Meta, Samsung, and Lenovo are also actively engaged in the creation of comparable technology.
