Mashable: Apple is reportedly gearing up to unveil its next-generation M3 Macs this October. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has a solid track record of Apple scoops, the company is planning to launch new Mac and MacBook models powered by its own M3 chip this fall. The M3 chip is the successor to the M1 and M2 chips, which Apple introduced last year and earlier this year, respectively, as part of its transition away from Intel processors.

The M3 lineup is expected to include a new iMac, a 13-inch MacBook Air, and a 13-inch MacBook Pro. The iMac will likely sport a sleek redesign similar to the 24-inch model that debuted in April, while the MacBook Air and Pro will probably retain their current looks but with improved performance and battery life.

However, don’t hold your breath for a 15-inch MacBook Air with an M3 chip. Gurman previously reported that the larger version of the ultra-thin laptop is slated for 2024, along with a 30-inch iMac that could replace the current 27-inch model.

It’s unclear whether Apple will hold a special event to announce the new M3 Macs or simply issue a press release. The company has done both in the past, depending on how significant the updates are. Given that the M3 chip is more of an incremental upgrade than a radical change, Apple might opt for the latter option.

Gurman has been consistent in his prediction that the M3 chip will arrive by the end of 2023 at the latest. He also hinted that Apple is working on even more advanced chips for future Macs, such as an M4 or an M5, which could enable features like Face ID and cellular connectivity.

The M3 Macs will be the latest addition to Apple’s busy fall lineup, which is also rumored to include new iPhones, iPads, AirPods, and Apple Watches. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to October.
