Mashable: Employee group Apple Together has reportedly been petitioning for greater remote work options.

A faction of Apple workers is fighting back against a coming deadline for them to resume office hours. Apple Together has reportedly been petitioning for greater remote work options, and the Financial Times has seen the petition. This is in reaction to a directive from upper management ordering all employees to spend at least three days per week at the Santa Clara Valley headquarters beginning September 5, 2022.

This is Apple's most recent effort to go back to business as usual after being compelled by COVID-19 to start allowing employees to work from home. Tim Cook has often said that face-to-face interaction is crucial to Apple's success.

Apple Together, on the other hand, claims that the company's secretive culture prevents employees from having "eureka!" moments and that morale and output would improve in a more relaxed work environment.

The proposed change to mandatory office hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday has already been modified in response to criticism. The employee and their supervisor may now choose the third day of the week for the office visit.

However, Apple's chief of machine learning, Ian Goodfellow, has already resigned in protest over the news, opting instead to join Google.

Apple Together has grown into a significant force inside the once-infamously secretive tech giant. According to reports from earlier this year, the corporation punished female employees who spoke up about sexual harassment and assault.

Ashley Gjvik was let off from her job in Sunnyvale after she reported harmful circumstances there to higher-ups. Employees at several retail locations in the United States have been contemplating organizing a union, and the firm has been accused of trying to prevent them from doing so.
