We've heard rumors of a new MacBook Air being readied for 2022 and a reliable analyst has now come up with more predictions about the upcoming device which has turned a lot of heads over the past year.
For starters, if you're one who does not want those portable Macs in bland colors, then you'll appreciate what's coming your way.
Ming-Chi Kuo states that the 2022 MacBook Air (via MacRumors) will launch in several colors and will look similar to the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch redesigned MacBook Pro models, so don't expect anything too adventurous. Kuo earlier mentioned that Apple is functioning on a fresh design for the MacBook Air, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman later commenting that it'll arrive in a thinner, lighter package, alongside a MagSafe connector and USB 4 ports.
The TF International financial analyst also states that the 2022 MacBook Air will feature a mini-LED upgrade, which he has confirmed previously. However, on this occasion, he provides additional information that BOE will undertake production of the new display technology, giving customers access to deeper blacks, a better contrast ratio, and improved color accuracy.
As for its internals, Kuo has not mentioned anything, though Apple has previously been rumored to be performing on its M2 chipset, which is claimed to launch within the last half of 2022. Apparently, the chipset’s launch had been delayed, and it'll likely be showcased alongside the redesigned MacBook Air.
The M2 SoC is claimed to feature fewer CPU cores than the M1X for the new MacBook Pro models, but since it's expected to be made on TSMC’s N5P architecture, so it'll likely tout improved energy efficiency, possibly resulting in better battery life on the portable Mac.
