Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Information Affairs Ministry will hold the ceremony of the third edition of “Khalifa bin Salman Press Award” on May 2.
The laureates will be honoured in four categories - the Best Column, the Best Investigative Report, the Best Press Interview and the Best Press Photo.

Commenting on the event, Information Affairs Ministry’s Undersecretary, Abdulrahman Mohammed Bahar, affirmed that the ministry has finalised all preparation for the grand ceremony.

He stressed that the ministry is honoured by the fact that the prestigious award carries the dear name of HRH the Prime Minister, the supporter of the Press and journalists, and who recognises the importance of the free and fair word and allocates all kinds of support for the press community in Bahrain.

He highlighted the ministry’s constant keenness on supporting and encouraging everything that serves the national press in both form and content, out of its belief in the importance of the Press and journalists in enlightening public opinion and consolidating the landmark achievements and gains attained under the pioneering reforms spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The undersecretary expressed appreciation for the 230 press works participating in the third edition of the award, which, he said, reflects the flourishing media movement in the kingdom, and proves the keenness of the journalists to participate in the award.
Press institutions and journalists vying for the award presented works that had been published in Bahraini Arab or English newspapers or magazines in 2017 only.
He added that the presented works were examined by a jury comprising high-profile journalists, media persons and academicians, noting that winning works are those committed to the principles of accuracy, objectivity, fairness and credibility in expressing their opinions and consolidating Bahrain's continuous development and civilisational progress , under the leadership of HM King Hamad, HRH the Prime Minister, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

The undersecretary added that this year’s edition will host the Saudi media as a guest of honour, and a number of editors-in-chief of Saudi newspapers, as well as key Saudi media and press personalities, will attend the award ceremony, which embodies the depth of the long-standing and steadily-growing relations between the two brotherly countries.
