The system is being launched as a collaboration between the Chinese firm and Dubai's RTA.

The willingness to quickly adopt tech from innovators across the globe has made Dubai a smart city equipped with AI, robots and drones, which are powered by a connected ecosystem that the emirate has developed. Intelligent control centres and predictive solutions backed by machine learning, have enabled the city's administrative bodies to streamline traffic movement, consumption of water and power, as well as waste management in the tech oasis.

Following the successful deployment of smart mobility, residents of Dubai are already looking forward to flying cabs and driverless buses, that can make the daily commute significantly easier. As part of yet another cross-border collaboration to enhance daily life in the UAE via digitisation, Dubai's road transport authority has roped in Chinese firm Alibaba to monitor passenger traffic on public transport via computer vision.

Data from the e-commerce firm's AI-backed system, will be analysed to measure the number of passengers boarding buses and cabs from different areas, for insights into demand for public transport. This information will enable authorities in the city to identify areas where bus stations or taxi stands are needed, for efficient expansion of a thriving transportation infrastructure.

Dubai's road transport authority signed an agreement with Alibaba at a congress for autonomous mobility, to prepare for a scenario where the population will increase from 3.3 million to 5.8 million in two decades.

In addition to this, Alibaba has also launched an AI-powered meeting assistant in the UAE, to convert verbal discussions into written minutes with 98% precision. The smart transcription solution can identify 10 distinct voices during a single meeting, and promises to boost online conferences.

Along with this, Alibaba has also introduced an upgraded version of its cloud computer, to support digitisation in the country.

Coming back to mobility, the road transport authority in Dubai has also inked a pact with Evocargo, to use its self-driving vehicles for deliveries at ports and airports.
