More than 350 incoming passengers at #Dubai International Airport (DXB) were caught holding fake #passports in the first three months of 2024, the @GDRFADUBAI said on Monday.
As per the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), a total of 366 passengers were caught using forged passports between January and March this year. The numbers saw a slight increase from 355, who were caught in the same period last year.
In 2023, a total of 16,127 documents were examined, of which 1,232 were identified as forgeries. Similarly, a total of 443 cases were referred to the public prosecution for further action depending on the specifics of each case.
Aqil Ahmad Alnajjar, consultant at the Document Examination Centre, spoke to reporters at Dubai Airport’s Terminal 1 on Monday as per the Khaleej Times and revealed that GDRFA has an effective system to catch fraudsters who try to enter the Emirate carrying illegal passports.
He also noted that every counter at Dubai Airport Passport Control is equipped with an advanced machine called Retro Check. These machines help scrutinize suspected fake passports as well as serve as an effective firewall that aids immigration officers in checking and detecting fake passports.
If a dubious passport is detected by a passport control officer, it is then sent to the Document Examination Centre for further verification.
