The 21-year-old has come up with Medpal to remove the hassle of registering separately at every hospital.

Experts across the globe have consistently pitched detection, tracking and follow up of infected patients during the pandemic as the most effective method for keeping a major outbreak or another wave at bay, and countries like UAE used technology to successfully apply this approach. Online apps paired with tools to share medical data and monitor patients from a distance to check their progress, enabled the Emirates to contain the spread of infections in time, in order to emerge as a safe space when most of the world grappled with restrictions.

Efficient handling of the healthcare emergency using connectivity and advanced devices, opened doors for adoption of other solutions like robots for surgeries, AI for spotting symptoms, and even prompted young minds to use their knowhow for improving lives in the Middle East. For residents of the UAE already benefiting from unified medical information and online PCR test results to simplify immigration in the new normal, a student from Dubai has developed her own platform, which is being touted as a one-stop-shop for all needs of patients as well as doctors.

By removing the hassle of registering at different hospitals separately, the portal called Medpal will facilitate a smooth flow of patient data from a single reservoir, for doctors to take informed decisions, hence enabling personalised care. The 21-year-old's platform is also equipped with a system to remind people about their appointments, and to follow-up on test results.

Medpal users in the UAE will have unique IDs which will be secured via blockchain tech, and won't have to fill out forms and provide medical history separately at a new hospital. By removing time taken for formalities and speeding up decisions with data, the platform will also increase the income of doctors by up to 14%, while ensuring convenience for the patients.

The founder hopes the government makes such a system mandatory, so that all hospitals in the Emirates can function swiftly based on a single network.
