Elon Musk is in news again. He often is, but this time for a different reason – he’s slammed media in a series of aggressive tweets.
“The holier-than-thou hypocrisy of big media companies who lay claim to the truth, but publish only enough to sugarcoat the lie, is why the public no longer respects them,” Musk fired a tweet on May 23.
“Going to create a site where the public can rate the core truth of any article & track the credibility score over time of each journalist, editor & publication. Thinking of calling it Pravda …,” he tweeted on May 23.
“Problem is journos are under constant pressure to get max clicks & earn advertising dollars or get fired. Tricky situation, as Tesla doesn’t advertise, but fossil fuel companies & gas/diesel car companies are among world’s biggest advertisers,” he continued tweeting.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, has long been known for his swagger.
Musk’s tweet received a response from Senior transportation reporter at @verge, Andrew J. Hawkins, who tweeted, ”Musk continues his slow transformation into a media-baiting Trump figure screaming irrationally about fake news. Hope it works out for you dude!”
Another tweet of Musk said, “Even if some of the public doesn’t care about the credibility score, the journalists, editors & publications will. It is how they define themselves.”
The twitter has been on fire since Musk posted his views, with many supporting while many opposing his views.
One user, @hubertlepicki, tweeted, “@BretStephensNYT @nytimes So @elonmusk picks a fight with journalists, citing their lack of integrity and bias. They strike back: with lack of integrity and bias.”
To which another user, @RitNagar replied, “If your news channels and articles are so true why do you need to fear something that rates your credibility lmao. Ironically they are saying “He can’t handle criticism” while burning on Elon making a joke.”
@hubertlepicki again replied, “I am not a fan of Musk. There is a lot of things to criticise, and Tesla’s business model might be very well first issue on the table, but instead we are talking about his war on media – his war on media is stupid.”
Another tweet by @ne0liberal said, “Getting mad online is not a great look, Elon.”
The tweet rants, for and against Musk’s views have been continuing to date. Having said that, one question that still remains unanswered by Musk: Is he pro-journalism or anti-journalism?
This becomes especially interesting when in Tesla’s 2017 annual report, the company said media coverage was one of the primary factors that drove sales for its vehicles.
