Mashable: Elon Musk's legal team said Friday that "Twitter's unexpected call for warp speed after two months of foot-dragging.

According to a report, Elon Musk's legal team claims Twitter is pressing for an unnecessarily speedy trial in the case of a $44 billion acquisition attempt by the Tesla and SpaceX CEO. Elon Musk's legal team said Friday that "Twitter's unexpected call for warp speed after two months of foot-dragging... is its latest strategy to obscure the facts about spam accounts long enough to pressure defendants into closure."

On Tuesday, Twitter filed a lawsuit against Musk after the Tesla entrepreneur reneged on their $44 billion takeover deal. To compel Musk to complete the purchase of Twitter, the complaint claims that he signed a "binding" agreement and that he's only now pulling out "because it no longer serves his personal interests." According to Musk's legal team, the matter will be tried on February 13th, 2023, at the latest.

Musk said that Twitter didn't meet its "contractual obligations" as the reason why he wasn't going to buy the company.

Musk has asked for an "independent evaluation of the number of fake or spam accounts on Twitter's platform" for more than two months, the letter says.

All of these complaints were echoed in a court document that was filed on Friday. It said that the court shouldn't grant Twitter's request for a quick trial in the coming months because the case is more complicated than Twitter made it sound and needs more time.

It was revealed in court documents acquired by The Washington Post that Twitter's unexpected need for warp speed comes after two months of foot-dragging and obfuscation in an attempt to conceal the truth about spam accounts long enough to pressure the defendants into closure.

"Twitter's worth is at stake in the long-running controversy over fake and spam accounts. In addition, it requires a significant amount of time and effort to gather the necessary facts and experts. "Continued filings were made.

It further said that Musk was "flabbergasted to realize exactly how poor Twitter's procedure was" for calculating spam accounts during a meeting with company officials in May. A random sampling of just 100 accounts a day is what Musk tweeted about at the time. "It's done. It was stated in the document that there would be no automation, no artificial intelligence, and no machine learning.

For months, the purchase has been imperiled by Musk's concerns over spam and bot accounts on Twitter. In late April, Twitter accepted an offer from Tesla CEO Elon Musk to acquire the firm. While investigating Twitter's allegation that fewer than 5% of its user accounts are spam or bots, Musk put the acquisition on hold.

According to Musk's legal team, Twitter has been accused of "actively obstructing" and "thwarting" Elon Musk's access to information rights by denying him access to the data he requested in June. Musk's attorneys notified the SEC of their client's withdrawal on July 8 in a letter.
