Other than a contribution towards eco-friendly practices, the app will provide info on sustainability.
Over the years, adoption of digital solutions has enabled the UAE to build an ecosystem that enables high-speed and glitch-free connectivity, which has proved to be essential for the functioning of solutions like online apps, AI and cloud storage, integrated into the public service infra. But with changing times, the world around the Emirates has undergone a transformation due to the impact of carbon emissions on the environment, leading to drastic consequences.
From electric cars to renewable power sources and facilities that convert trash into energy, the UAE has been exploring ways to go green for repairing damage done to the ecosystem over the years. Other than government agencies, private enterprises are also looking to reduce their carbon footprint, and popular telco Virgin Mobile UAE has joined the bandwagon with upgrades in its app, which may help it go carbon negative.
The service provider which has already become carbon neutral by tweaking its ops in the Emirates, is using connectivity to boost sustainability, with a new feature for donations on its app. Customers can donate a minimum of AED6 for initiatives aimed at protecting the planet, and each donation will be matched by the telecom firm itself, to wipe out the carbon footprint of every mobile plan.
In addition to this simple feature on the updated Virgin Mobile app, users can also access information on ways to live a more sustainable life, thanks to the brand's educational push. All of this is part of the telco's larger plan to go carbon negative, by contributing for the battle against climate change, since it has already ensured that its ops don't damage the planet.
Virgin Mobile has been investing in eco-friendly initiatives and businesses through its collaboration with Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, to become carbon neutral. Among these, there's a project which converts gas from landfills into energy, to facilitate effective waste management while generating clean energy.
