Mashable: Apple's recent event primarily highlighted software updates, with minimal emphasis on hardware announcements. However, it has been revealed that Apple is currently developing two foldable devices in secret. One of these devices is a 20.3-inch MacBook, which is said to be nearing completion.

The other device is a 7.9-inch foldable iPhone with an outward folding design, resembling the Huawei Mate Xs 2, as noted by analyst Jeff Pu. This innovative design features a single display that spans across the front and back of the device when folded, transforming into a flat singular display when unfolded.
Pu anticipates that the foldable iPhone will be prepared for release by late 2026, while some analysts suggest that it may not be available until 2027.
On the other hand, the larger 20.3" foldable MacBook appears to be progressing as planned and is expected to launch in 2025. This particular device is comparable to the ThinkPad X1, featuring an inward folding display and a wireless keyboard that can be stored between the two halves when the device is folded shut.
An outward folding display offers the benefit of eliminating the necessity for a cover display, resulting in reduced weight, thickness, and cost.
Additionally, having most of the back covered in screen allows for customization or taking main camera selfies. However, the drawback of this design is that the foldable display becomes the most susceptible component of the device, constantly exposed to potential damage.
In addition to safeguarding the flexible screen, inward folding designs provide the convenience of being able to use the device in a laptop-like manner when folded at a 90° angle.

The reason behind the faster development of the foldable MacBook compared to the foldable iPhone remains uncertain, although it is possible that the complexity of an outward folding design plays a role in this discrepancy.
