The month will feature a daily live showcase of ancestral arts, with Portuguese artisans working on pieces in the pavilion’s amphitheatre.
Laying its focus on creativity and design, the Portugal Pavilion has come up with a ‘Home and Design’ theme month at the Expo 2020 Dubai that will commence from next month.
Bringing the best of Portuguese furniture, design and decorative objects, the month will feature a daily live showcase of ancestral arts, with Portuguese artisans working on pieces in the pavilion’s amphitheatre.
So far, two Portuguese designers – Alda Tomás, designer at Vista Alegre, and Artur Soares, interior designer, and founder of Designer’s Mint Studio have been in the spotlight.
Talking about the ‘Home and Design’ theme month, Joaquim Moreira de Lemos, Portugal’s Ambassador to the UAE said, “It is important to show in this part of the world what we do, our know-how, and how we can distinguish ourselves. Indeed, know-how and quality are characteristics of the national products that the wood and furniture sector represent well.”
The first week of the monthly occasion was titled ‘Hand-painted Ceramics and Wood Marquetry’ which took place from November 15 to 21. Week two of the theme, which takes place from November 22 to 28 is ‘Weaving Loom and Traditional Tapestry’ and finally the week three ‘‘Carpentry, Bobbin Lacemaking and Embroidered Sweaters from Póvoa de Varzim’ which will take place from November 29 to December 5, 2021.
“World events, such as Expo 2020 Dubai, are an excellent opportunity to promote Portuguese products that present themselves with tradition and authenticity. The home sector is a good example of the sophistication and exclusivity of the national offer,” shared Francisca Guedes de Oliveira, the Deputy Commissioner of Portugal for Expo 2020 Dubai.
The event will also see a series of talks including ‘Sustainability and Design’ taking place on November 23 and ‘The Importance of Portuguese Culture and Know-How: Design and Traditional Techniques’ that will take place on November 30.
