Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has expressed his disappointment over this year’s ICC World Cup promotional video.
The International Cricket Council aka ICC recently released the promo video of the ODI World Cup featuring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Although the recent promo video went viral in no time, it also has upset many people for a particular reason.
On July 20, 2023, the ICC took to its official Twitter account and unveiled a two-minute-long promotional video.
Shoaib Akhtar, one of the greatest Pakistani players of all time slammed ICC and those who made the video as it did not feature the Pakistan cricket team's captain Babar Azam.
The 47-year-old former cricketer took to Twitter and criticize the International Cricket Council after watching their recent promo for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar wrote whosoever thought that the ICC World Cup promo “would be complete without” Pakistan and Babar Azam’s “significant presence” has actually presented himself “as a joke.”
However, the video did reportedly feature moments from the Pakistan cricket team’s World Cup journey with appearances by cricketers including Wahab Riaz and Shaheen Shah Afridi but the absence of Babar Azam upset many.
Shoaib Akhtar suggested that the video is incomplete without Pakistan and the cricket team's captain Babar Azam and added its time to “grow up a bit.”
The 2023 ODI World Cup is slated to take place from October 5, 2023, to November 19, 2023, in India. The highly anticipated tournament will kick off with a match between England and New Zealand.
