Instagram is reportedly cooking up a new feature that could make your chats more fun and engaging. According to mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi, who often uncovers hidden gems in Instagram’s code, the platform is working on an AI chatbot that can join your conversations, answer your queries, and offer you tips on how to express yourself better.

Paluzzi shared some screenshots of the chatbot on Twitter (via Engadget), showing that users will be able to pick from 30 different personalities for their AI companion. The chatbot will also have a name and a profile picture, making it feel more like a real friend. You can invite the chatbot to any conversation by simply tagging it with an @-mention.

The chatbot could be a handy tool for those who struggle with writing messages or finding the right words. It could also spice up your chats with some witty remarks or creative suggestions. Imagine asking the chatbot for advice on what to wear, where to go, or how to reply to your crush.

While there’s no official confirmation from Meta (formerly Facebook) about this feature, it’s not surprising that Instagram is experimenting with AI chatbots. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed earlier this year that the company has a team dedicated to creating “AI personas” for its messaging apps, including Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Paluzzi has also proven to be a reliable source of Instagram leaks in the past. He was one of the first to spot the platform’s plans to introduce a paid verification system, which Meta announced last month.

So, when can we expect to see the chatbot in action? That’s still unclear, as Paluzzi notes that the feature is still in development and may change before it’s released.
