Mashable: The company's desktop operating system was updated to seem more like iOS with the release of Big Sur.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the next major upgrade of Apple's iOS operating system could have "significant enhancements". Updates to notifications and additional health-tracking capabilities are expected in iOS 16, according to Gurman in his current Power On newsletter.

Those looking for an iOS overhaul, on the other hand, should know that it appears to be off the agenda. “I’m not expecting an end-to-end redesign of iOS’s interface, even though it hasn’t changed much since iOS 7 nearly a decade ago,” said Gurman. It's possible that Apple's multitasking UI will be tweaked as a result of any interface modifications.

Gurman speculates that Apple's watchOS 9 may bring improvements to its activity and health tracking functions, but he didn't go into detail. And it's still unclear what Apple has in store for macOS 10.14, which is due out later this year. The company's desktop operating system was updated to seem more like iOS with the release of Big Sur. Apple, on the other hand, introduced capabilities like Universal Control and SharePlay in the more recent Monterey release.

At WWDC 2022, Apple will demonstrate the next version of macOS, as well as iOS 16 and watchOS 9. This year's annual developer conference will get underway on the 6th of June. Gurman has said that new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models are in the works, so it's plausible that Apple will unveil them at the event.

Last but not least is Gurman's confirmation that Apple is unlikely to say anything regarding its Mixed Reality headset, despite the fact that iOS 16 should be filled with it anyway. He explains in a note:

As far as I know, a full-blown introduction of the mixed-reality headset is still probably out of the question in June, but I am told that beta versions of iOS 16—codenamed Sydney—are chock-full of references to the headset and its interactions with the iPhone. That indicates that the headset will launch during the iOS 16 cycle, which kicks off in June and will last until iOS 17 comes in the fall of 2023. But it may also suggest that Apple could preview some of its upcoming augmented and virtual reality software earlier. Perhaps we could even get a peek at the headset’s rOS, short for reality operating system.

Gurman has said that a WWDC debut is "still definitely out of the question," but insiders claim that beta versions of iOS 16 are "chock-full of references to the headset and its interactivity with the iPhone." It's assumed that the references suggest a launch will take place during the iPhone 16 cycle, i.e., between June 2022 and June 2023, at the earliest.
