Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, revealed in a blog post on Monday that the company has formed a team to develop AI-powered solutions. Together with additional AI tools across its apps and services, this may eventually include "AI personas" aimed at assisting individuals in "different" ways.

Inside Meta, a new product division will be dedicated to generative AI. This is a new set of machine learning techniques that allow computers to write words, draw drawings, and create other media that resembles human output.

Zuckerberg elaborates that Facebook is developing artificial intelligence (AI) "experiences" in the areas of text, such as chat via Messenger and WhatsApp, photos, such as "innovative Instagram effects and ad formats," and video and multi-modal experiences. As reported by CNBC, the new group will work under Chris Cox, who is currently the Chief Product Officer, and will be headed by Ahmad Al-Dahle, vice president of AI and machine learning at Meta. Al-Dahle previously worked in Apple's special product group.

Getting to the truly futuristic experiences will require a lot of groundwork, but he is looking forward to the many new things they'll create along the road.

Many tech giants, including Microsoft, Google, and even Snapchat, are exploring the potential of generative AI as the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT grows.

Recently, Meta stated that it is developing LLaMA, an artificial intelligence language generator targeted toward academics rather than the general public. It also released a pair of AI chatbots, Galactica and Blenderbot, neither of which particularly stood out. Still, it will be fascinating to see how Meta refines and integrates AI elements across its various products.
