Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind, has been appointed by Microsoft as the head of a newly established consumer AI unit. In addition, Microsoft has also hired several employees from Suleyman's Inflection AI startup. This strategic move aims to safeguard Microsoft's leading position in the face of increasing competition from Google.

As CEO of Microsoft AI, Suleyman will oversee various consumer AI initiatives, including the Copilot chatbot and the innovative Bing browser that incorporates AI technology.
The Copilot, developed with the assistance of OpenAI's ChatGPT, plays a pivotal role in Microsoft's endeavor to generate revenue from its AI endeavors. It possesses the capability to compose emails, summarize documents, and create presentations.
In a blog post, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed that the addition of fresh expertise will empower us to further expedite our progress.
He mentioned that as a part of this shift, Mikhail Parakhin and his complete team, comprising Copilot, Bing, and Edge, along with Misha Bilenko and the GenAI team, will now be reporting to Mustafa.
Microsoft has recently collaborated with various startups, such as Mistral AI from France, amidst increased regulatory scrutiny of its partnership with OpenAI.
Karen Simonyan, the co-founder of Inflection AI alongside Suleyman and Microsoft board member Reid Hoffman, is set to assume the role of chief scientist.
Meanwhile, according to the most recent report by Mark Gurnman from Bloomberg, Apple and Google are presently in the midst of active discussions concerning the implementation of Gemini to improve the generative AI capabilities on iPhones in the upcoming year.
