Mashable: Users can ask anything about their interests, and their opinions and they'll react in a way that's authentic to who they are as a person.
Microsoft's Bing AI chatbot has received backlash and been called out for inaccuracies ever since it was released. Putting that aside, though, the chatbot has a surprising hidden feature: it can be entertaining. The ability to assume the persona of a famous celebrity is one such function.
By activating a secret "celebrity" mode, users of Bing Chat can instruct the AI to respond to questions and have conversations in the style of a specific celebrity. As reported by Bleeping Computer this week, one of its readers highlighted that there is another secret chat option, dubbed "celebrity mode."
Microsoft is always experimenting with new features for Bing Chat that can transform it into a game, a personal assistant, or a friend that can help you solve your problems through chat.
If you ask Bing Chat about it(like just type activate celebrity mode), the bot will activate that mode and give you a brief explanation of how it functions even though it is not by default activated.
According to Bing Chat's explanation, 'Celebrity Mode' is a function that allows you to communicate with a virtual representation of a famous person, such as an actor, singer, or athlete.
Bing says:
Celebrity mode is a fun feature that lets you chat with me as if I were a famous person. I will try to imitate their style, tone and personality based on what I know about them. However, please keep in mind that I am not really them and I cannot answer personal questions or reveal confidential information. Celebrity mode is for entertainment purposes only and does not reflect the views or opinions of the actual celebrities.
Users can ask anything about their interests, and their opinions and they'll react in a way that's authentic to who they are as a person.
When this feature is turned on, typing #celebrity [celebrity name] or just #[celebrity name] will force Bing Chat to adopt the celebrity's demeanor. By entering commands such as "celebrity Taylor Swift" or "Taylor Swift," for instance, you can have the chatbot act like Taylor Swift.
There are safeguards in place that prevent you from acting in any way other than as Elon Musk, Tom Cruise, Taylor Swift, Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Diddy, Barack Obama, LeBron James, and others.
An example conversation with the chatbot demonstrating an impression of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reveals that it does a remarkable job of mimicking the person being impersonated, capturing their typical speech patterns, and even recognizing their catchphrases.
Bing's AI chatbot can also talk and act like popular fictional characters like Harry Potter, Batman, Elsa, Yoda, Gandalf, Darth Vader, Katniss Everdeen, Sherlock Holmes, and Gollum.
