The evolution of a digital economy has been accelerated in the Middle East, thanks to the rise of e-commerce, online public services and trends like remote work during the pandemic. Social networks and digital content have also become essential marketing tools, for businesses entering the virtual marketplace for higher exposure.
Platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat have not only become an inalienable part of modern day connected lives, but are also enabling influencers to cash in on their popularity. TikTok took social media by storm in the past few years with informative or entertaining clips, and this explains Dubai Chamber's move to promote it as a new-age entrepreneurial skill.
The local authority has partnered with TikTok for opening doors to a first-of-its-kind academy in the Middle East, where business owners will sharpen their social media skills. Participants will be offered a five-week training programme which includes five courses, that'll empower them with detailed knowledge on TikTok content creation.
Those who enroll this month, will be able to learn how to make optimum gains by using digital marketing to attract a global consumer-base on TikTok. Experts in the field have also been roped in to mentor new players, while workshops have also been crafted specifically for entrepreneurs looking to convert ideas into marketable products.
Dubai Chamber has joined hands with the popular Chinese app with a vision to boost prospects for 1000 small firms, now sailing into the ocean of e-commerce. Although it has faced restrictions and bans elsewhere, TikTok enjoys popularity in the Emirates, and also convinced Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed to come on board last year.
The growing tribe of influencers in Middle East's glamourous tech hub, also encouraged TikTok's rival Snapchat to roll out the Spotlight feature, that allows content creators to earn via popular videos.
The rewarding opportunities unlocked via social media marketing has even led to Emirati authorities introducing norms for influencers to pay taxes on gifts from the brands that they promote.
The approach of empowering UAE's local talent in emerging digital sectors has also been visible through an e-sports academy in Abu Dhabi.
