As the covid-19 restrictions ease, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has started opening up some of the tourist places, and museums are one such tourist place. The museums in Makkah have opened their doors to the public to showcase Makkah’s unique identity throughout history.

Ten museums in the holy city that have some of the rarest artefacts, illustrations, and collections that reveal the human experiences of the city have been opened to the visitors.

The museums show how the people of Makkah managed to shape a wealth of human knowledge through various eras and the progress made after the prophecy and how its noble teachings came into existence.

The museums in the kingdom also contribute to raising cultural and humanitarian awareness with all their intellectual messages and expansion of the life of fathers and grandfathers.

According to the Culture Ministry’s Museums Commission, the Al-Zaher Palace Museum is given special attention and they hope to reopen it as soon as possible, as it was closed due to the pandemic.

The museums have put in extraordinary efforts to highlight the Islamic, civilizational, and cultural heritage of the city so that visitors can expand what they needed to know about Makkah.

The Al-Saqaf Palace in the Maabad neighbourhood which is under development would combine heritage and culture through its restoration, and when complete is going to be an Islamic Museum.

The varied museums in Makkah also exhibit household appliances used in Makkah before electricity was introduced, a section on Saudi tribes, and the display of the role of the city’s residents in serving pilgrims and the history of the ancient Madrasah Al-Sawlatiyah, one of the oldest schools in the Arabian Peninsula.
