Mashable: Qatar will hold the FIFA Under-17 World Cup from 2025 to 2029

FIFA recently announced the hosts for the next five editions of the Under-17 World Cup from 2025 to 2029.

On March 14, 2024, the world soccer’s governing body revealed that Qatar will hold the Under-17 FIFA World Cup from the year 2025 to 2029.

At today's FIFA Council meeting, it was confirmed that Qatar will host the next five editions of the expanded 48-team FIFA U-17 World Cup.

“At today's FIFA Council meeting, it was confirmed that Qatar will host the next five editions of the expanded 48-team FIFA U-17 World Cup,” FIFA wrote on X.

As Qatar is set to host the next five editions of the boys’ Under-17 World Cup, Morocco will hold the women’s Under-17 World Cup, starting in 2025.

“Likewise, Morocco will host the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, which has been expanded to 24 teams, annually from 2025-2029,” FIFA added in the tweet.

According to the Khaleej Times, the FIFA Under-17 World Cup will be held annually instead of biennially, with the boys’ tournament expanded to 48 teams, like the senior men’s World Cup.

Qatar and Morocco will host the FIFA U-17 World Cup, male and female for the next five years starting from 2025.

The women’s U-17 World Cup tournament will also be played annually from 2025. The North African country Morocco will be hosting the expanded 24-team event until the year 2029. Meanwhile, the 2022 edition had a total of 16 teams.

“This followed a global call for expressions of interest in hosting both competitions,” Fifa said adding, “with a focus on leveraging the use of existing footballing infrastructure in the interest of tournament efficiencies and sustainability.”

The world soccer’s governing body also revealed that a record $2.25 billion had been earmarked for investment in football development for the 2023-2026 cycle.

Germany won the last men’s Under-17 FIFA World Cup which was held in 2023, whereas Spain won the women’s Under-17 FIFA World Cup edition in 2022.
