To turn the vision of Dubai as a smart city with robo-cops patrolling streets and flying taxis into a reality, local organisations in the city are adding innovative digital services in the public infrastructure. By bringing AI into play, the water and power authority is promoting responsible consumption, while RTA makes sure the daily commute isn't disturbed.

With these bodies flaunting high-tech solutions, Dubai's police aren't far behind, as smart police stations, facial recognition and brain fingerprinting are being used to nab criminals. To add to its arsenal of smart tools for protecting residents, the department has roped in drone boxes and assembled an intelligent command centre.

Similar to an air traffic control for aerial vehicles tested in the Middle East, the drone box is meant to automatically send the flying surveillance gadgets, wherever they are required. It monitors and adjusts the movement of drones, with an aim to cut down response time for crimes as well as traffic related incidents, to less than a minute.

Among other smart initiatives which Sheikh Mohammed was introduced to, an AI command centre promises to fortify public security, thanks to support from a network of 300,000 cameras. After analysing data it recieves from every corner of Dubai, machine learning directs police patrols towards the location where they are needed most.

It uses presence of tourists, crowds and commercial activity in the area to decide if cops need to be present in the surroundings. Thanks to this, the authorities are able to respond to emergency situations in half the time.

Months after making headlines for catching an international narco kingpin using AI-powered facial recognition, Dubai police have unveiled the Oyoon system which can identify suspects from a crowd using video analytics. By watching out for unusual behaviour and processing visual data, the intelligent platform can also predict crime, so that police are better prepared.

Dubai police has been zooming ahead towards futuristic security, by adopting gadgets like sensors that send our alerts about car crashes, and tracking devices to integrate convicts back into the society.
